THE SOUTHWESTERN REGION OF THE AMERICAN MUSIC THERAPY ASSOCIATION |
Red River Valley Winter 2016 A publication of the Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association We are gearing up for a great conference in Fort Worth! This year we have some exciting news in continuing education offerings. For the first time, we will be hosting an institute at our regional conference. As music therapists we work with a variety of people who may be at an elevated risk for suicidal behaviors anywhere from school settings, to nursing homes, hospitals, to day rehab centers, even our clients in private practice. The QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) institute is an interactive course that teaches you how to interview potentially suicidal persons, determine immediate risk of suicide, and help reduce the risk of suicide attempt or completion through safety planning and referral process. The training program includes the risk assessment and risk management of adult and youth suicide risk. An inpatient/residential assessment manual and risk monitoring protocols are available on request. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to become fully prepared in preventing suicide.
