Red River Valley Winter 2016
A publication of the Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association
Red River Valley Editors' Report to the Board
The latest edition of the RRV was published online on October 1st using the recently updated SWAMTA website. This edition included many reports from SWAMTA board members, including the President, President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Continuing Education Committee, Assembly of Delegates, and SWAMTA Students.
The RRV Co-Editors have incorporated a new column in which one SWAMTA member is featured in each issue. Our hope is to help members of our large geographical area get to know some of our colleagues in a meaningful way. Nancy Hadsell and Kathleen Coleman graciously agreed to the first two interviews, and in coming editions, we will interview both experienced and new music therapists from our region.
In the works for the winter edition coming out in February is another new feature which will be titled, “Ask Eva.” The editors are forming a panel of experienced MT-BCs who can answer anonymous questions from our membership, including students and new professionals. The name gives a nod to Eva Augusta Vescelius who founded the National Society of Musical Therapeutics in 1903, one of the first music therapy associations on record. A short biography of Eva will appear as a regular byline of the “Ask Eva” column.
The next edition of the Red River Valley will be released in winter 2017. The deadline for content submission for the winter newsletter will be January 20, 2017, for publication February 1, 2017. Multiple reminders will be sent, so timely submission is very much appreciated.
The co-editors especially appreciate the work of SWAMTA webmaster Christina Stock who has put the RRV online and worked closely with the editors to make the newsletter inviting and accessible. Past issues are also available as archives on the website.
