For many of us, the fall season serves as a transitional time whether it’s starting another year of teaching, attending school, or a new fiscal year with one’s place of employment. After the laid back feeling that often accompanies summer, the fall often reboots us into a mode of business and action. The SWAMTA Board of Directors is a good reflection of this process as we kick into full gear after our August board meeting in Plano, TX. We discussed ways to better improve our inter-board communication processes as well as how we disseminate information to our membership. I am truly impressed with the dedication of our board members and when we work better together, we better serve our regional members and our profession.
One initiative I am currently investigating includes on-line voting options for application in our regional elections. We are currently the only region not using on-line voting methods. Other regions have found that on-line voting is not only more efficient and cost-effective, but also significantly increase in the number of members to vote in an election. Adopting this practice for our region will require a change to our current by-laws so I anticipate having proposed by-law changes presented at our 2017 regional conference!
The fall season also marks the time of our AMTA national conference. As President-Elect, I will be attending the conference in Sandusky, Ohio which will include my role of serving on the AMTA Assembly of Delegates. If you are attending national conference, I encourage you to take time to sit in and attend an assembly meeting. These meetings are open to all and are a live-action way of witnessing exactly how SWAMTA is serving you, the membership, as we vote on many policy decisions that directly impact our profession.
Finally, please know that I welcome anyone to contact me with your comments, suggestions, ideas or questions. I am here to serve our region and appreciate what you to do for the clients we help each and every day!
