The SWAMTA Board of Directors (BODs) met on August 20th, 2016 at My Possibilities in Plano, TX. In attendance were: President, Antoinette Neff; Past-President, Sophia Lee; President-Elect, Christine Neugebauer; Vice President, Diane Powell; Secretary, Esther Craven; Assembly of Delegates Representative, Edward Kahler; SWAMTAS President, Sobhian Kelley; Treasurer, Amy Rogers; Parliamentarian, Jessica Jarvis; Continuing Education, Jennifer Townsend; RRV Co-Editors; Karen Sholander; Website Administrator, Christina Stock; and Local Conference Chair, Mary Altom. Thank you to Esther Craven and My Possibilities for hosting our meeting at your wonderful facility! The following are highlights from the meeting.

New Appointments and Officer Roles

New appointees were presented to the Board for confirmation. The following positions were confirmed:

Nancy Hadsell - Chair of the SWAMTA Historical Committee. Regional Representatives to the AMTA committees including: Jacqueline Claxton - Association Internship Approval; Marcus Hughes - Diversity; Suzanne Heppel - Government Relations; Tiffany Laur - Membership; and Carolyn Daschinger - Workforce Development and Retention. Diane Powell will serve the remainder of the Vice President. Thank you to all for your willingness to serve!

National Conference

AMTA’s 2016 Conference, “Under the Canopy” will be held in Sandusky, Ohio from November 10 -13, 2016 at the Kalahari Resort. Online registration is now open at A Preliminary Program is also available online for a listing of scheduled concurrent sessions, CMTE courses, and meeting schedule. The SWAMTA Board of Directors Meeting will be from 5:30-7:00 PM on Thursday, Nov. 10th, 2016; and the General Business Meeting is at 7:30-9:15 AM on Saturday, Nov. 12th, 2014. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. Also, please refer to the official schedule posted on the AMTA website for additional meetings that you will be involved in on behalf of the Region, along with all fantastic CMTE/concurrent sessions during the upcoming conference. The AMTA is graciously offering five Board Members from each Region to attend the Leadership Academy CMTE at the 2016 National Conference free of charge! Thank you to the AMTA for it’s generosity to develop strong leadership to the profession and propelling our membership forward. SWAMTA Conference 2016

The next SWAMTA Regional Conference will be held in Fort Worth, TX from March 23rd-25th, 2017. The venue will be at the Sheraton Downtown Ft Worth. Our theme is “Cowtown Connection: Recharge at the Music Therapy Round-Up!”. Check out the website and keep up to date as the conference draws near! Christina Stock is doing an excellent job of updating our website. Veronica Butler is on top of keeping us up to date via Facebook and social media. Diane Powell, Mary Altom and the Local Committee are doing a fantastic job to ensure you have a wonderful conference experience! Thank you for all your work to make conference possible!
