Red River Valley Winter 2016
A publication of the Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association
President-Elect Submission for the RRV
It is with pleasure that I serve SWAMTA as president-elect. First, I would like to thank SWAMTA president, Toni Neff, for her guidance and leadership as I learn more about this important role and how I can best serve the region. One of my goals this year is to know as many members, including students and professionals, in our region. I know that each and every one of you has a story to tell and I want to hear your stories. I would also like to listen to your ideas and suggestions about how we can better serve your needs.
I have been a member of SWAMTA since 1994 and appreciate the friendship and support I have received from so many of you over the years. These relationships are invaluable to me as is my investment in the profession of music therapy. Membership is critical to sustaining the profession of music therapy and without membership, music therapy would not exist. I hope that we can continue to grow membership in our region and convey the value this organization has on ensuring quality music therapy services in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Now that we have started a new year, it is time to renew our membership. Remember that AMTA now provides a payment installment plan as another option. When calculated over the course of one-year, professional membership costs approximately .68 cents/day or $4.77/week. I believe the financial investment in AMTA and SWAMTA is not only valuable to me personally, but also because I am making a contribution to music therapy advocacy, education, and clinical training.
In this issue of the RRV, I would like to bring to your attention the Harmony Award. This award is the highest recognition members can receive in our region and I encourage you to strongly consider nominating a colleague you know who has shown exceptional contributions to our field. We can award more than one Harmony Award each year so your nomination will make an impact. Below is more information about this prestigious award and how to submit nominations:
