If you have found yourself clicking around the SWAMTA website, you may have come across the Call For Paper tabs. This is where we need your presentation proposals! In our previous conference survey there was a comment that requested more sessions that had intervention take-aways. We would love to see more of those offered this year!

At the bottom of the "Call For Papers" page on our site, you can also find a listing of session topics people love to see! This includes musicianship, settings, therapeutic topics & skills, and business development.

Conference presentation proposals will be accepted till December 9. If you are looking for any ideas, or you have any questions, please feel free to email me at vicepresident@swamta.com !

As always, we are #LookingForwardToLubbock and hope to see you PRESENTING there!

Having just returned from our national conference, I want to let you know that things are still well on their way as we are #LookingForwardToLubbock! Today's post is to tell you a little bit more about how our hotel was chosen.

When hosting a conference, one of the first steps is contacting the city and submitting a Request For Proposal (RFP). This will inform the city of details for your event, and based on that information hosting sites will give a you bid in return. This year for Lubbock we received 3 bids, and ultimately the MCM Eleganté Lubbock came out the winner. The MCM was selected not only because they were able to offer us our top choice of dates, but also because of it's affordability.

MCM Eleganté not only has free parking, and free airport transportation, but the room rates also include a free hot breakfast. They even have an omelet station!

We know cost is a huge factor that comes in play when looking at attending any conference, so please know we think about all these things when planning a conference. And we really hope to see you in April at the MCM Eleganté in Lubbock!

First off let me welcome you to the new "blog" portion of the SWAMTA conference website! This was added so that we could continue to inform our conference attendees and SWAMTA members of the decisions we are making in regards to our regional conference held every spring. There is a lot of work that goes in to planning conference, and every decision is made with a great deal of thought. We wanted to give you an opportunity to learn more about how these decisions are made without overwhelming you with information all at once, so this blog was born.

Our 2018 SWAMTA Regional conference, "Music Takes heART" will be held April 4-7th at the MCM Elegant in Lubbock Texas. As we are well underway with our plans for April, I wanted to being with how these dates were chosen!

Our conference has traditionally been held anywhere from the second to last weekend in March to the second weekend in April, Thursday through Saturday. When looking at these weekends there are many things to keep in mind-NATS competition, college concerts, Spring Break, holidays, etc. It is impossible to pick a "perfect" date, but we really do look at all these things to make it as convenient as possible for people to attend!

Because our conference is being held in Lubbock this year, one major factor that played in choosing our dates was the "First Friday Art Trail." This is an event that is put on by the city of Lubbock on-you guessed it-on the first Friday of each month. The local committee thought this would be a wonderful Friday night activity for everyone to attend, so we are taking extra measures to shift our "traditional" Friday night conference schedule so that everyone will be free to attend, if they so choose.

To check out more about the First Friday Art Trail go to: http://ffat.org/index.html

and I hope you are #LookingForwardToLubbock!

It is the hope of the board that with this blog our members will be able to see the planning process unfold in real time and ask questions ahead of time.

Planning for Lubbock 2018 and 2019 has already begun! Stay tuned for posts from various Board members and the Lubbock Local Committee!

For each Institute and CMTE course occurring in conjunction with regional conference, a minimum registration number will be set. The minimum registration number is based on covering the cost of holding the course (CBMT fee, room rental, AV rental, etc.) and is determined by the Continuing Education Director, with the support of the Board of Directors. Should that minimum registration number not be met by the regular conference registration deadline, the course may be subject to cancellation. The cancellation will be agreed upon by the Continuing Education Director with approval from the President. If insufficient enrollment exists by the end of the regular registration deadline, SWAMTA may cancel the CMTE course.

Full refunds are available until March 1, 2018. Partial refunds available with written request after March 1. Requests must be made to the Vice President and copy the Treasurer. Requests will be processed within 30 days after conference concludes.
